5 Tips to Make the Most of Your Private Music Lessons

So you’ve signed up for your private lessons and you are ready to work! What now? A lot of students come into private lessons excited and eager to learn, but what they don’t realize is that it IS work. Progress doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time and dedication to develop these skills. What is the best way to do this? Below are 5 quick tips to making the most of your private lessons.

1. Ask your teacher anything and everything.

Don’t be embarrassed by any questions even if you feel like you should already know the answer. This is why you have a private teacher! They are there to answer your questions and they have heard them all.

2. Don’t get discouraged if you forget something from previous lessons.

Repetition is key to success! It is very likely that you will not catch on to everything right away. Again, this is why you have a private teacher. They are there to work at your pace and help you improve by catering to your specific needs.

3. Practice at the same time every day.

Set aside a time each day that is dedicated only to practicing. This will avoid any excuses and help bring consistency to your daily life.

4. Communicate.

Let your teacher know what you are interested in working on. Teachers want passionate students, so they will try to work in what keeps you motivated, you just have to let them know!

5. Look for ways to practice in front of an audience.

It is easy to get into a comfort zone when it comes to practicing, but that helps no one! The music industry is not a place to be shy, so practice regularly in front of your friends and family and ask for feedback!

The biggest key here is dedication. If you have that, the rest will follow. Do you have any other tips to share? Let us know in the comments!
